About boardofgovernorsmusic

Board Of Governors is a power-rock trio in Chicago, IL, that couples the aggressive, driving rhythms of East Coast punk rock with the structural and melodic integrity of 90′s Seattle-based grunge rock. BOG is singer/guitarist Trevor Hougardy, drummer John Marino and bassist, Frey Brown, who together merge the youthful excitement and energy of their rock backgrounds. Their music is distinguished by energetic guitar-riff driven hooks, sophisticated use of dynamics, chromaticism and key changes, and is consciously minimalist. Their songs are often interlaced with groove-inspired bridges, which make their music ooze with sex and passion. Hougardy’s smart and soulful lyrics are a unique brand of social commentary that has a solid message: In order for people to live happy, fulfilling lives, one cannot turn a blind eye to social struggle or add to problems by focusing on competition, fame, money, exploitation or drugs. Instead, BOG broadcasts a positive message to stay true to your own values no matter your socio-economic status, where you live or what you look like, and to speak up against those who try to bring you down with their negativity. BOG formed in 2008 when Hougardy and Marino’s previous band, The Beautiful Losers, broke up. For two years they wrote, experimented with different lineups, reworked and developed their sound. In the summer of 2010 they recorded their first E.P. at Paragon Studios, Inc., and in Spring of 2011, Frey Brown joined the band. Brown’s bass playing has made the BOG sound complete, adding the punchy groove beats for which the band is known. The Governors currently play in and around Chicago at venues like House of Blues Chicago, The Venue at Horseshoe Casino, Elbo Room, Double Door, Martyrs’, Goose Island, Reggies, Mutiny, Brauer House (Lombard, IL) and Durty Nellie’s (Palatine, IL). In Spring of 2011, Solo Picture Studios released Board Of Governors’ first music video for Like You Wanna Be, and BOG expects another music video for their song Lines to be released in mid-August 2011. The Governors are writing their full first-length album which is scheduled for release in late 2011. They plan to tour on that album in Summer 2012.

Won’t Go Quietly

Dear Friends:

We are very honored to announce that our music is going to be featured in a short-film, “Won’t Go Quietly” directed by the uber talented Jonny Diaz and produced by Solo Picture Studios. It hasn’t been released yet, but you can check out the trailer here and catch a glimpse of a scene that was filmed at our December 7th Subterranean show:

You may recognize the lead actor, Ryan Foster, from such hit BOG promos as the hot dog, that “far out” guy, and the disapproving bartender in Bad Santa.

On a side note, we’ve missed you all while we’ve been in the studio recording for the past few weeks and we can’t wait for you to hear what we’ve been cooking up at Uptown Studios! In the meantime, please mark your calendars for our next two shows:

April 19, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. in Milwaukee at Club Garibaldi (2501 S Superior St).

April 20, 2013 at 8:30 p.m. in Chicago at the Beat Kitchen (2100 W. Belmont).

Rock on,

BOG

DANSTOCK @ LINCOLN HALL (2/7/13)

Dear Friends:

As many of you know, musician and producer Dan Stock (of the hard rock band, Bruiser) has been a huge force in the Chicago rock scene for the past decade.  We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Dan at Uptown Recording Studios last year–he engineered and produced our first EP as a trio.  Recently, we were extremely honored to be invited by Dan to play at the first annual “DANSTOCK” at Lincoln Hall (2424 N. Lincoln Ave.) on Thursday, February 7, 2013.  Tickets for this event can be purchased for $20 each here.  The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bands will start playing at 8:00 p.m.

This concert will be our most important show to date.  All proceeds will benefit melanoma research at the Lurie Comprehensive Care Center, where Dan has been receiving medical treatment in connection with his battle with melanoma.  According to Dan, he organized this benefit concert to “give a little bit back” while he still can.  Please join us at this event to celebrate the life of our dear friend, producer and fellow musician, Dan Stock, and to help raise money in his honor.  We’ll be playing with three more great Chicago bands that worked with Dan:  Farkus, Nature Show and Carta Marina.

You can read more about the event on Facebook here or in a number of blogs/publications, including The Local Tourist, Uptown Update, Broken Hearted Toy, Illinois Entertainer, DNAinfo, Lincoln Square Patch, Windy City Rock, Curb Service Music, Time Out Chicago, JBTV and the Welles Park Bulldog.   If you can’t make it to the show, you can also make a direct donation to the Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at https://www.give-northwestern.org/donate (click on the “Additional Feinberg Designations” drop-down box, and scroll down to melanoma research).

If you didn’t catch our appearance on Mancow’s Morning Show where we promoted this event, check it out on Mancow online or stay tuned for clips to be posted on Facebook and YouTube.  It was a riot.  Spoiler: Mancow offers to pay for us to get haircuts and asks us to play live for a wrestler and a woman in a full duck costume.
